Buyers looking for a midsize sedan that’s a cut above the competition should take a look at the 2020 Kia Optima. Buyers have three engines to choose from. There’s a long list of standard driver-assistance technology features that today’s buyers demand. According to the Kia dealership serving Spring, the 2020 Kia Optima seats five and is available in four trim levels, listed as LX, S, EX and SX. All models get standard front-wheel drive.

Kia Optima LX

The LX and S trims employ a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 185 horses and 178 lb-ft of torque, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. A Driver Mode Select feature allows the driver to select Normal, Sport or Eco mode. The base LX trim includes 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, automatic high-beam control, height-adjustable front seats, a 60/40-split rear seat and heated mirrors.

Tech features that come standard include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an audio system with six speakers, and a USB port. Standard advanced safety features include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, driver attention monitoring, lane keeping assist and rear parking sensors.

Kia Optima S

The Optima S trim starts with the features of the LX and adds fog lights, 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, keyless entry and ignition, dual exhaust tips, a power driver's seat, cloth and simulated leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a hands-free unlocking trunk. Buyers can choose the optional Panoramic Sunroof package and get gloss-black exterior accents and (of course) a panoramic sunroof.

Kia Optima EX

The Optimas EX trim is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 178 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, mated to a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. Standard features include leather upholstery, interior wood accents, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rear air vents, heated front seats, sound-reducing front door windows, more forward collision warning sensors and adaptive cruise control. The EX also comes with HD and satellite radio, a rear power outlet, a wireless charging pad and three USB ports.

The optional Premium package comes with driver-seat memory functions, driver's seat four-way power lumbar adjustment, ventilated front seats, a power passenger seat with two-way lumbar adjustment, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, a Harman Kardon premium audio system with 10 speakers, and a navigation system.

Kia Optima SX

The top-of-the-line SX trim is motivated by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s good for 245 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, matched with a six-speed automatic transmission. The SX gets many of the features of the EX with the Premium package. The SX also comes with 18-inch wheels, black-painted exterior accents, metal interior trim, automatic high-beam control, LED headlights and fog lights, a sport-tuned suspension, a rear spoiler, red brake calipers, a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, a larger driver information display and a spare tire.
