When you think of small crossovers, the Kia Sportage may not be the first model that comes to mind. That’s a shame, because while the Sportage may not have the best name recognition, it’s an excellent vehicle, with a long list of features and an affordable price tag at dealerships like The Woodlands Kia dealer. Some of the standard features 2020 Kia Sportage buyers enjoy include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as a host of driver assistance features such as forward collision and lane departure warning systems.

The folks at The Woodlands Kia dealership pointed out that even the base Sportage comes with an abundance of equipment that some other automakers leave out. Move to the top of the Sportage lineup and you’ll get many features not usually found in this segment, as well as a sporty model with a powerful turbo-four engine.

For 2020, the Kia Sportage gets updated styling, more optional driver-assist features and a standard 8-inch touchscreen. New available features include a smartphone charger, LED headlights, Leatherette interior trim and a new exterior paint color called Steel Grey.

The automotive experts at Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com gave the 2020 Kia Sportage high marks, writing: “The 2020 Kia Sportage is a capable and reasonably priced compact-crossover SUV with updated looks, a choice of engines and a good selection of high-tech features. Four fit comfortably inside this compact Kia SUV, and there’s plenty of space in back for all your luggage.”

The Sportage seats five and is available in four trim levels: LX, S, EX and SX Turbo. Front-wheel drive is standard across the lineup and all-wheel drive is available. All trims other than the SX Turbo are powered by a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The SX Turbo employs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that produces 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. With all-wheel drive, horsepower drops to 237. This unit is capable of pulling up to 2,000 pounds. Both engines are paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Sportage has comfortable seating and there’s great outward visibility from the driver’s seat. The cabin provides many cubbies and other storage spaces to put your belongings. There’s lots of head- and legroom for rear passengers to stretch out, while reclining seatbacks keep everyone feeling relaxed.

Standard features on the base LX trim include 17-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, LED daytime running lights, automatic headlights, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, selectable driving modes, a driver information display, a 60/40-split folding and reclining back seat, a height-adjustable driver's seat, an 8-inch touchscreen display, a six-speaker sound system with a USB port, the Kia Uvo infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Standard safety features include a driver attention monitor, a rearview camera, automatic high-beam control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning and mitigation.

Owners will be pleased to learn that the 2020 Kia Sportage is very safe. The 2020 Sportage received the top score of five stars for overall crash test safety by the NHTSA. As of this writing, the IIHS has yet to test the 2020 Sportage, however, the 2019 model received the highest rating of Good in all IIHS tests. We expect the 2020 Sportage to receive the same score.
